LIMCA BOOK OF RECORDS
Our batchmates have got the distinction of holding world record “ALUMNI MEET
OF A SINGLE BATCH”. This was published by Limca Book of Records 2005 – page
No. 156. The Write-Up is as under :
“BITS’69 is name of the batch of students who graduated from BITS Pilani,
Rajasthan in 1969. While Old Boys’ Associations comprise alumni down the
years, Bits’69 is unique in that only students of the class of 1969 meet
sporadically to celebrate friendship. The meet includes family members too
so the total number could be anywhere around 1000. The association has its
roots in 1985 when Manohar Baheti, Ashok Sureka and Deepak Khosla tried to
trace their batchmates, 320 of them. It was daunting task as they had spread
not only all over India but also all over the world. Their persistence paid
off when they released their first directory of 134 batchmates in 1984. at
the end of 2004, they had a directory of 260 members! The first meet
happened in 1987 with 75 families. It was such an exciting moment that they
decided to make it a regular feature, meeting perhaps once every three
years. Since then, get-togethers have happened in 1991, ’94, ’97 and 2003.
And there’s more togetherness planned in the years to come. The American
Chapter took place in Washington D.C. in August 2004 with 29 out of 34
members attending the alumni meet”. |
